OPI New York Ballet Soft Shades Collection

I have seen so many swatches of the new polishes from the New York City Ballet Collection by OPI and couldn’t wait for it to be available here. The collection consists of six polishes. Five sheer jelly finishes and a glitter topper!

The shades are My Pointe Exactly (grey), Come to Danse (lilac), You Callin’ Me a Lyre (pink), Barre My Soul (beige), Don’t Touch My Tutu (white) and Pirouette My Whistle (silver glitter). I of course could not afford all six polishes with the prices that I get here so after much though and a lot of stalking swatches on nail blogs, I finally picked up 3 polishes from this collection the last weekend.

My choice of polishes were Barre My Soul, My Pointe Exactly and Pirouette My Whistle! Here they are!

I love the colors even more now! I really wished that prices weren’t so steep in Malaysia. If not I would have gotten the whole set without hesitation. *sigh* Maybe I should check out eBay next time.

More Nail Mail!

Remember about the giveaway at The Hungry Asian I wrote about here? Well I was too eager to get my hands on those lovelies I placed an order with Kae through her etsy shop.

After 2 weeks of waiting and checking, it finally arrived in the mail! I was kind of a surprised actually. Kae did give me a tracking number but the USPS tracking number only worked when the parcel was still within the US. Once it left LA, I was left clueless.

I actually got this parcel when I was collecting letters from my mailbox in the office. Looking at the little hill of papers in the mailbox I thought – My gosh! How many letters do I have to sort through today! Little did I know that this was sitting underneath the mail!

I was surprised to see such a big box as I only ordered some minis from her.

The polishes were nicely wrapped in a tissue paper parcel and nicely tucked in a bed of more tissue paper! The little package was a shade of blue that was so familiar. I did a mani with a similar color not too long ago. Can you guess which?

Kae even included a little thank you note under the package!

These are my newest additions to my stash:

Matte Love

SH’s Sun Kissed is wearing surprisingly well! Even after 4 days there was hardly any tip wear. I usually change my mani every 3 or 4 days but seeing how nicely this mani is holding up I decided to spruce it up one more time. This time with a matte top coat. And I am totally loving what I’m looking at!

My little bottle of magic is China Glaze’s Matte Magic. I actually got the mini (9.6ml) bottle because I was scared I wouldn’t like it. How wrong I was then!

My right hand actually looks better with the matte top coat if you ask me. The other colours seemed more muted which went well with the yellow on my middle finger.

The 3D effect from not using a regular shiny top coat is still apparent with the matte top coat ūüėÄ

Gradient dots!

I loved my orange manicure but I thought it could use a little pick me up. In my mind I was thinking to do some stamping, preferably with greens and yellows. But after 10 minutes of trying to get a decent transfer from the stamping plate I gave up and resorted to dotting instead.

Since I already taken out a few polishes for stamping I decided to use all of them! and the best way I could think of was to do some gradients. I tried my very best to keep them in line but as soon as I started on the second colour the lines were already tilted. But I still *love* how it all turned out. It made my fingernails seem longer than they actually are!

I did not use a top coat over the polka dots in these photos because I liked how the dots created little bumps on my nails.

My poor bottle of Seche Vite is starting to lose it’s label!

On my right hand i decided to do a different sort of gradient. Instead of having it all on one nail I did the gradient across my fingers. I was a little disappointed with my middle finger. The yellow did not pop as much as the others and somewhat ‘melted’ into the base colour. Here is a photo of my right hand. Do excuse the awkward pose and the dry cuticles.

More polka dot spam! (of my left hand of course)

Sun Kissed

(Something is very wrong with my WordPress system today. This is the third time I am writing this post!)

I decided to cut my nails to a more manageable length yesterday because they were getting a little too long for my liking. My bags were getting scratched really bad and one even had a little peel on the handle. I used some clear top coat to patch it up that day and it worked for a bit. But after using the bag for another 2 days the other side of the tear began to come off as well *sigh*

Anyway, on to my nails today.

I picked up 2 bottles of Sally Hansen polishes from the pharmacy last week. These two are my first SH polishes in a very long time. Usually the SH displays would be filled with top and base coats,¬†straighteners,¬†cuticle oils and polish removers instead of polishes which really wasn’t interesting to me. But when my friend had to pop by the pharmacy that day I decided to have a look see at the SH display because my Seche Vite top coat was getting a little goopy and I had to wait for a few days before Seche Restore would come in the mail. To my surprise, althougth the shelves wasn’t full with polishes, there was a bunch of brights in the mix. I decided to give SH a go since I didn’t own any so I picked up Sun Kissed and Purple Potion.

The formula for the SH polishes were divine! It was opaque in 2 careful coats and the shape of the brushed suited me well. I did not have to do so much cleaning up after. The color on the other hand was a little weird. In the bottle Sun Kissed looked like a great creamy orange but when I applied it on my nail the color was brighter than I expected. It came out to be a little neon in fact! The polish dried shiny but I decided on a coat of SV to avoid dents and scratches.

The difference between the polish in the bottle and on my nails is most apparent in this picture.

Flakie Spam!

As you know from my last post, I received some flakies polish from Llarowe that day. And me being me, I couldn’t resist them and HAD to try them on immediately.
The two polishes I got was Ludurana 3-D Flake Flash and HITS Jazz Flake which is no longer available on Llarowe at the time I was writing this post. ūüė¶

HITS Jazz Flake has flakies that shift from green to a nice teal in the sunlight. I am in love with the colour and the application was great. I only used one coat of HJZ and as you can see. the whole nail is covered already! You have to be careful though, the polish seems a bit thick for a brand new bottle.

Next up is Ludurana 3-D Flake Flash. Compared to HITZ Jazz Flake, it had much less flakes per stroke. These are actually 3 coats of it in the photos. I think that it might be because of the suspension base being a little watery. I am tempted to leave the cap off for a few minutes to ‘dehydrate’ it a little but I am worried that it would end up too goopy and cant be used anymore. The color of L3DFF is much more dynamic than HJZ. There are red, green, yellow and even a little hint of blue in them when the light hits them.

My fingers are painted HITZ, Ludurana, HITZ, Ludurana in the photos.
Direct Sunlight

Artificial Lighting
Blurred shot

This is my favorite shot of the polishes which I took when I was on the way home from work!
This is the only shot that shows off the red/orange flash in the Ludurana polish.
And last but not least – a photo taken with the Sierra filter on Instagrm, This photo actually shows off the flakies the best!
OPI Black Onyx has a very good formula. The first coat was a little streaky but it evened out nicely with the second coat. I usually shy away from dark colours but I love how Black Onyx turned out. Its a very nice and warm color.

I got mail!

20120509-112442.jpg

My order from llarowe (http://shop.llarowe.com) has finally arrived!

I love how tightly pack the polishes were. I read many horror stories on other nail blogs where their polishes did not arrive safely, even if it was just within the US. When I opened the parcel, the first thing I did was spend a few minutes trying to figure out how to open this little bundle without cutting up the bubble wrap. I soon gave up and just snipped through the top part of the little bundle so that I could reach in and pull the polishes out easily.
